Arthur Doyle Trio/The Orkustra
Split
Qbico #100
Pic Disc LP
OUT OF STOCK!
Glorious split picture disc that bundles one of the wildest, most heart-rending free jazz blow-outs of wildman saxophonist Arthur Doyle’s career with an eerily beautiful unreleased jam from Bobby Beausoleil’s Orkustra recorded in San Francisco in 1966. The Doyle track is an amazing archival recording from a undocumented period of his creative evolution, playing at the peak of his powers with a trio that featured Charles Stephens on trombone and Rashied Sinan on drums. Recorded at Sam and Bea Rivers Studio Rivbea on August 26th 1972, the trio kick out the jams with a blazing assault on Doyle favourite “Nature Boy” that has a devastating emotional impact and features some of the group’s most furiously outside form. Euphoric balls-to-the-wall free jazz rama-lama doesn’t get any better than this. The Orkustra side is a nice companion piece, with a slow-burning violin-led dirge that evokes the ghost of Haight-Ashbury. Already completely sold out at source, this one won’t stick around for long. Highly recommended.
