Feed & Seed

CD-R
£8.99

Feed & Seed is a great new CD-R label based in the North East of America and run by Daniel Presnell, a member of Astral Blessing, a group that also features Paul Labrecque of Sunburned Hand Of The Man and who opened the second day of the now-legendary Brattleboro Free Folk Fest back in May of 2003. Acte Gratut is the latest recording from this group, now swollen to a quarter and featuring Presnell and J. Pace alongside P. Mulcahy and K. Wood. Sub-titled “Works For Multiple Timbres 1-7”, this is a series of trance-trouncing meditations scored for bells, glasses, flute, organs, shruti, strings, harmonium, short wave, oscillators, drums and tapes that vibrates in mid-air with all of the solemn majesty of Terry Riley, Klaus Schulze, Tirath Singh Nirmala your favourite presiding daemon. Totally beautiful: Presnell and the rest of the Feed & Seed roster are ones to watch this year for sure. Packaged in a handmade card case with Mylar insert and tracing paper credits. Highly recommended and very limited.

Feed & Seed No Cat

CD-R
£8.99

Debut release by a new backporch hillbilly psych/drone group that features Daniel Presnell (Astral Blessing/Hildegard), P. Mulchay (Hildegard) and Ed Yazijin (Dredd Foole & The Din/Cul de Sac et al). The instrumental armoury includes guitar, fiddle, organ and drums and the music spans droning folk dirges that reference Pentangle, Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention and punk primitive jams that reconcile psychedelic power trio blats with cracked avant-Kraut weight and some Velvets-style amphetamine heat. Comes in a fold over oversize screened card sleeve with insert.

The Saluda Grade
The Augur's Reverse

Feed & Seed No Cat

CD-R
£8.99

New duo work from Mr Lloyd Wyatt (who cut an excellent 3" for Feed & Seed a while back) and Sparrow Durham using guitar, Fender Rhodes and organ. The feel is of a murky late-night railway yard with deep fog bisected by blurry beams of light, thick night-time drones, half-heard voices and feedback loops of steel on steel while someone plays The Dead C's "The Sun Stabbed" over a tannoy system. Another good one from Wyatt and co. Comes packaged in an envelope with a fold-out insert and the disc housed in a screened, hand-sewn slip.

Magneticring & Osama ‘Sam’ Shalabi

Feed & Seed No Cat

3" CD-R
£7.99

Great electro-drone/ethno trance work from a duo set-up that would combine the stoned, stately Oud playing of Sam Shalabi with Josh Stevenson's (JOMF/Samara Lubelski et al) analog Magneticring project. Here Stevenson plays EMS synthi, wrapping blankets of dark cosmo-tone around Shalabi’s hypnotic string work. Limited to only 50 copies and packaged in 3-colour lino print sleeves with insert and printed mylar.

Shasta Cults

Feed & Seed No Cat

3" CD-R
£7.99

Great Hawkwind/MEV/Kluster-styled modular synth cut-up with UFO F/X from this mysterious Siskiyou Valley-based duo. Edition of 50 copies in stapled art books. “Shasta Cults, a mysterious modular synth duo with pata-geo-spirtual connections to the Siskiyou Valley, and the cave-dwelling stone worshippers the region seems to attract. Some have suggested that 1/2 of the sounds herein are the work of the elusive Buchla Music Easel. We can't comment on the materials used by these spiritual masters, but we can tell you that there's a lot of banana cables seeping out of this one, and the 20 minute improvisation drones, explodes, reconfigures, shifts, shakes, stutters before finally settling into a troglodyte gospel atrophy. A book accompanies the CD which attempts to spread their religion to other like-minded spelunkers. Artwork by the ever curious F.O.L. Ministries.” – F&S.

Ed Yazijian

Feed & Seed No Cat

3" CD-R
£7.99

Brand new limited to 50 copies 3” CD-R, the follow-up to Ed’s magnificent Six Ways To Avoid The Evil Eye. Yazijian is best known as Dredd Foole’s long-time shadow but on his own he can saw his way through a violin like a gut-bucket, planet-gobbling Ornette. This beautifully packaged 3” CD-R comes in a handmade paper sleeve with Japanese envelope interior and features four tracks recorded across the past ten years straight to 4-track cassette. Yazijian uses violin, AM receiver, shakuhachi, bowed metal, stainless cookwear and vocals to conjure a series of perfectly formed miniatures that cut crude folk styles with hypnotic tone poems and cosmo-drones. Excellent.
