Hair Police
s/t
Hospital Productions HOS-85a
CD
£10.99
Totally necessary compilation of a bunch of ferocious and long out-of-print sides by the Hair Police trio, bundling the Hospital cassette and Mortuary Servants EP with a whole raft of new exclusive mud/noise constructions from the Drawn Dead sessions. No one reconciles confrontational noise and fucked rock dynamics like these guys and this as satisfyingly-oiled as anything in their back catalogue. Highly recommended.

The New Blockaders/Thurston Moore/Jim O'Rourke
The Voloptulist
Hospital Productions HOS-144
CD
£8.99
Dream-team hook-up between a trio of the most important free-noise theorists of the modern age, the UK's New Blockaders and Thurston and Jim of Sonic Youth et al. Hard to work out who is doing exactly what here - though the presence of drummer Chris Corsano on the second track is pretty unmistakable - but the overall feel is of one of TNB's early Symphonie X works populated by thin strings of feedback, the crackle of electronic jack-to-jack friction and a subtle ring of bone. Beautifully eerie and a little more pro-drone than the bulk of TNB's work. Second track is just unbelievable, with a slow hiss of feedback torn apart by Corsano's triumphal, spirit/energy scattershots, marching a legion of ghosts all the way over the horizon. Highly recommended.

Magik Markers
Inverted Belgium
Hospital Productions HOS-136
one-sided LP
£16.99
One-sided LP documenting the infamous face-gouging gig that Magik Markers played in Tienen, Belgium, May 9th 2005, this time totally remastered and sonically fucked-with by Dominik Fernow of Prurient to give it an extra sick veneer. It sounds incredible and might just be the most purely in-yr-face Markers release to date - “total slow motion noise dirge hell”. Beautiful heavy duty silkscreened double sided/wraparound sleeve. Highest recommendation.

Deathpile
G.R.
Hospital Productions HOS-88
CD
£9.99
"Jonathan Canady (Dead World) delivers his first official full-length release as Deathpile, focusing on the early 1980s Green River murders in Seattle as inspiration. Nine tracks of dense and rushing power electronics and sado-ambient atmospheres, delivered with fierce, verging-on-hysterical vocals, and a general fucked-up viewpoint. Packaged with a ten-page fold-out lyric insert, and mastered by Scott Hull (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, Anal Cunt, Japanese Torture Comedy Hour)." - Hospital.

Zaimph
Sexual Infinity
Hospital Productions HOS-162
CD
£9.99
New solo album (first ever 'real' CD release after a bunch of limited CD-Rs) from Marcia Bassett of Double Leopards/Hototogisu/GHQ et al, released on Domink Fernow of Prurient's label. A real departure from her last few releases, Sexual Infinity has a darker, almost documentary-style atmosphere, with the low malevolent hum of late night, neon-illuminated streets (a hint of William Bennett's Bradford Red Light District in some of the more nocturnal 'field' style passages) cut up with the roar of jet engines, seedy, auraless orbits of cracked drone-tone, lurching blown-out synth violence that could almost be a field-recording of the aftermath of a Suicide riot and the most evocatively placed globes of murky drone. All held together with almost Haino-esque stabs of epic repeat chord runs. Highly recommended.

Roman Torment
Masculine Failure
Hospital Productions
LP
£12.99
“First full length vinyl offering from the combined efforts of Impregnable and Moth Drakula. a bitter storm of jagged and sharp rage with escalating fury! Opening with ‘The Perfect Servant’ and closing with ‘Shades Of Pain’, Roman Torment sews a disturbing thread of sexual and fetishistic demise through a wilted fabric of introspective violence. Reference points to the incendiary violence of Massona with the sinister mood of Mlehst, and Roman Torment churn forth a wall of trembling destruction set forth with erect tunnel vision blurred with tender malaise. Limited to 200 copies with the traditional silk screened 2 sided fold out cover.” – Hospital.

Prurient/Kevin Drumm
All Are Guests In The House Of The Lord
Hospital Productions HOS-201
CD
£9.99
CD edition of the very limited cassette collaboration between these two modern masters of extreme electronic architecture. But it’s not the 100 mile head-fuck that the combination of these two names might suggest, with long passages of electronics and hand-drums that almost touch on the endlessly still waters of Popol Vuh circa Affenstunde all cut up with portentous narration and glissing drones. Later tracks combine almost Neu Wave-styled Industrial ritual with peaking Penderecki-esque tone annihilation and the sound of heavy machinery dreaming itself.

Wolf Eyes/Sickness
There Is A Part Of Me That You Will Never Know
Hospital Productions HOS-209
LP
£12.99
New collaboration LP from the trio of John Olson, Nate Young and Mike Connelly with Chris Goudreau aka Sickness. Goudreau takes original Wolf Eyes material and sculpts it into a massive, constantly shifting pulse-based piece that feels like an inspired plunderphonic take on the organic, evolving logic of their live shows. It starts off with a classic section of minimal, grinding electronics, given an otherworldly gliss of F/X by Goudreau that makes it dazzle like a primitive Heemann/Chalk creation before building into torrents of sheet metal melodies and squelching rhythms, with parallel sounds given enough electronic treatments to lend them a very hallucinatory, instantly dissolving feel. Indeed, it's one of Wolf Eyes most psychedelic sides, if your definition of psychedelia takes in Throbbing Gristle and CCCC as well as electricity and LSD. Recommended.

Jason Crumer
Ottoman Black
Hospital Productions
CD
£8.99
“Fresh off his solo breakthrough LP Future Without A Chance on the legendary RRR label, Jason Crumer returns with Ottoman Black, an album of midnight drones and true noise. Using powerfully clear electronics as a base for declarative noise bursts, Crumer manipulates the sounds with a resounding animosity. In the vein of past Hospital releases from Pedestrian Deposit and Air Conditioning, Crumer yields a mean streak and an array of silences over the course of the album. The theme here is personal relations with tracks like 'Betrayal After Betrayal' which has an almost conversational quality, both the screams and the muffles, the physicality. 'Pissed Off Response' is an actionist-influenced piece of torture. There's nothing not painful here, especially the quiet -- the peaks are almost a relief. Ottoman Black is a stern and unforgiving universe.” – HP.

Shallow Waters
Equal Eyes
Hospital Productions HOS-218
LP
£14.99
"The first full length of this heavily active live unit from providence, ri. There is no solid footing in shallow waters. Only a suffocating hail of falling rock, strangling vines, and sinkholes. It is with rare exception that voice spits the last of breaths, the dying breaths, with such spite. Like a rabbit trapped in the hole of the snakes throat, this duo comprised of members of Immaculate:Grotesque and Em Dath Rir batter and tear there way through 6 tracks of power electronics eco-fallout and revolutionary anger. Although there is not one moment of relief in this litany of rage shallow waters separates themselves from the pack by creating what an album and not just a collection of tracks with the focus of a sniper and the fury of napalm. Get into the fight."- H. Edition of 100 copies.

Kevin Drumm
Imperial Horizon
Hospital Productions No Cat
CD
£11.99
“Imperial Horizon by Kevin Drumm is a further examination into sustained tone as most recently heard on his previous Hospital Productions benchmark album, Imperial Distortion, stretching out minimalism to unreached heights of serene ambient. Lulling electronic drones slowly transform over the course of the hour plus piece in constant flux, echoing both an existential terror and Zen calm. Mutations grow so quietly only the body opens to identify this change while the mind closes. The ephemeral and seeming lightness of the tones hang with taut balance in contrast to the method in which they are overlapped and rotated with deadly weight. How wildly divergent emotions rise, hover, and fall using so little is a mystery that only Kevin Drumm can provide. While you may not find an answer, you can certainly get lost in the question.” – HP.

Burning Star Core
Inside The Shadow
Hospital Productions HOS-212
CD
£10.99
CD reissue of what was originally a limited tour-only album from Spencer Yeh’s post-metal drone unit, bundling three massive huffs of dramatically piloted violin and sidereal electric forms that reconcile the kind of post-Kosugi trance dramas of his violin work with peaks of slow-burning Kosmiche crunch. Tony Herrington had a great piece in The Wire on BXC where he fingered Manuel Göttsching/Ash Ra’s more devotional/electro work as a precursor of this kind of monumentally damaged time/space sorcery and if that kind of comparison had your brain fluttering then plug it in here: Inside The Shadow is an even deeper pass through the kind of cranium-calming violence that illuminated much of Let’s Play Wild Like Wildcats Do and is one of Spencer’s most personally illuminating works. Recommended.

"After developing his calling card on Adult Life and the eternal releases Carlos Giffoni defines his signature with compositional electronic music. Prurient
The History Of Aids
Hospital Productions HOS-79
LP
£13.99
Vinyl edition of this classic Prurient side recorded in 2000 and originally released by Armageddon. Still some of Fernow’s most bleakly beautiful work, with the friction between the lyrics (which are based around the love poetry of the Persian Sufi mystic Rumi: Coil used his words to similarly disarming effect on Horse Rotovator) and the massively fucked-up nature of the sonics (contorted vocals, fuzz like boulders, fluxing low end thunder) making for a disturbingly personal vision of body horror, disease and redemption. Every Prurient release feels like a working-through of various Fernow fears/obsessions and The History Of AIDS is the process at its most transparent and skeletal. By turns frightening, upsetting and desperately moving; either way, this is a singular release.

Cold Cave/Prurient
Stars Explode
Hospital Productions HOS-266
12” EP
£10.99
Limited vinyl edition of the Cold Cave/Prurient collaborative UK tour cassette that came out in an edition of 100 copies in 2009 with the addition of a brand new track. Very different in tone from what either group has done before, Stars Explode presents a series of very beautifully slow-moving drone compositions that have all of the ancient tectonic power of Nijiumu’s Era Of Sad Wings. Heavenly choirs of synth vibrate on the very edge of the horizon while arcs of symphonic underwater keyboards bubble to the surface. The beats break through on the third track, a jack-hammer Suicide-style instrumental before breaking into a final track that combines epic/euphoric drone melodies with macabre F/X-contorted vocals. Aspects of Coil, Klaus Schulze, Walter Wegmuller.... but truly its own thing. A major step outside. Highly recommended.
