Pink Luminous Invocation
s/t

Sagittarius A-Star No Cat

LP
£23.99

New limited to 200 copies LP on A-Star, 180g vinyl with paste-on sleeves and insert, that reissues what was previously a CD-R on Foxglove from this Danish quartet. Using bells, toy keyboards, clarinet, violin, guitar, bells and vocals Pink Luminous Invocation marry the primitive volk styles of Sweden and Finland – think Paivansade’s more ritualistic work or some of the satellites of the Silence label – with a delicate, hazy drone aesthetic that threads short wave feedback sounds with ghostly vocals and ethereal small instrument interventions.

Roy Brooks and the Improvisational Sphere
Live At Lelli’s

Sagittarius A-Star No Cat

LP
£21.99

180g vinyl edition of 200 copies LP with a group led by legendary drummer Roy Brooks recorded live in 1999 with a line-up that features Claudine Meyers on Hammond organ, Rodney Rich on guitar, Jerry LeDuff on shaker and tablas and Ray Mantilla on conga, bells and percussion. Brook splayed with a ton of major thinkers in his lifetime – Lee Morgan, Max Roach, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Yusef Lateef – and he has a magic, electric feel for the kit. Live At Lelli’s presents the only documentation of this particular group, combining African modes w/shots of deep blues and free jazz.

The Phill Musra Group
Love, Life & Games

Sagittarius A-Star No Cat

LP
£21.99

Excellent live recording from 2011 from a group led by free reedist Phill Musra and featuring Don Hooker on drums, Steven McGill on percussion and vibes and Walter Barrilleaux on paino. Musra came up through the AACM’s school of music, learning reeds from Roscoe Mitchell and theory from Anthony Braxton and Muhal Richard Abrams. Love, Life & Games was originally composed during his AACM years in 1968 and it captures both the compositional ‘feel’ of that organisation and their great free/communal approach to improvisation. Edition of 200 copies on 180g vinyl.
