The High Wolf side represents the apex of his recent form with a slow narcotic groove that’s fuzzy around the edges and that threads simple melodic tones into spaceway drones in a way that crosses Out There A Minute-period Sun Ra with early Kraut cosmonauts Harmonia/Cluster/Popol Vuh and a flat-lined minimalist approach that is as hypnotic as your favourite all-night flight. Annapurna Illusion have a heavier/fuzzier aspect to their eternal music, with aspects of Faust’s “Krautrock” accruing form and focus across endless passes through metal drones and vistas of crunch before Yod-style rhythms start to call the kitties home.
