Raven Strain
Trisagion
Hanson HN-144
Cassette
£6.99
Great Infiltration/Weird NJ/Subterranea Britannica-style exploration of what sounds like long-abandoned underground tunnel systems piled to the ceiling with unknown industrial debris and threaded with huge mystery loops of high ghost voices and the march of long-dead feet. “Ever heard of the NORTHVILLE TUNNELS?? It's these underground tunnels in Northville, MI that lead to an old abandoned Mental Hosptial. A teenaged RAVEN STRAIN aka MATT BILLINGS used to hang out in those tunnels... ALOT! This is totally the sound of creeping thru there high on paint, seeing only by the light of a shitty BIC mini lighter... runnin around the hospital and reading the forgotten files of the inmates that once lived there. I remember him telling me a story of snakin some old filing cabinets from there and draggin em home thru the tunnels. I think he recorded that and put it on this tape. Total abandonment, illness, and drugs.” - Aaron Dilloway/Hanson.

Aaron Dilloway & C. Spencer Yeh
The Squid
Hanson HN-166
LP
£14.99
Collaboration LP from Dilloway of Wolf Eyes et al and C Spencer Yeh of Burning Star Core etc. Dilloway uses tape loops, tape delay, bowed tape and vocals and Yeh uses violin, voice and electronics. Recorded in 2006 in Ann Arbor, The Squid has a heavy Takehisa Kosugi/Taj Mahal Travellers feel, with a headier, more expansive psychedelic brainwave style than is usually associated with Dilloway. Yeh's violin flutters on phased waves of F/X while Dilloway lets off tiny looped depth-charges, exploding Yeh's elegiac drones with chattering, circular vocals, unidentifiable noise scree and long corridors of breath. Edition of 500 copies in silkscreened cardstock sleeves. Recommended.

Christopher Riggs
Draco
Hanson HN-197
Cassette
£5.99
“An excellent cassette to make you feel sea sick from the guitarist of TRAUM. The A side sounds more like a thick metal cable fluttering in the wind than a guitar. Nauseating low end fluttering waves interrupted by occasional high end frantic scratches which sounds like amplified birds cleaning themselves on the wire. The B side is a barrage of high end squeals and squeaks, metallic whistles, flapping insects, stabbing needles, knife sharpening, baby animals crying, wild boar breathing, paper ripping, and more… all made with a guitar! A truly FUCKED UP recording!” – Aaron Dilloway.

Walter Carson
Sneezes And Breezes
Hanson No Cat
Cassette
£6.99
Excellent set of degraded electronics and looped entropic noise from Carson, a frequent collaborator with Hair Police and member of Wretched Worst: “Sounds like some mice ate an old synth tape... really... It sounds like some old dude recorded some fucked up shit in school on his colleges fuckin' ARP... stuck the reels in a box in 1973... moved a few times... left em in some shitty storage unit for a couple years... moved em into the basement of his NEW place... had a "mouse issue"... saw that the mice had gotten into his old tapes... that they had actually pulled some tape out and used it w/ pieces of the box to make a nest... died in there. He tossed the whole box out... Walter Carson, on one of his nightly garbage picking runs, comes across this shitty old box of reels... "hey cool!" He dubs em "AS IS" onto cassette...then sends it to me as his master... AMAZING TAPE.” – Aaron Dilloway.

Psychic Driving Tapes
Hanson No Cat
Cassette
£6.99
Dazzling disturbing/psychedelic loop/noise from Aaron Dilloway, with wild subliminals buried in an ululating mix of electronic confusion in the mode of classic Dillo sides like Infinite Lucifer: “Psychic driving was a psychiatric procedure in which patients were subjected to a continuously repeated audio message on a looped tape, in order to alter their behaviour. In psychic driving, patients were often exposed to hundreds of thousands of repetitions of a single statement over the course of their treatment. They were also concurrently administered muscular paralytic drugs such as curare in order to subdue them for the purposes of exposure to the looped message(s). The procedure was pioneered by Dr. D. Ewen Cameron, and utilised and funded by the U.S. CIA's MKULTRA program in Canada. The psychic driving procedure was a chronological precursor to Cameron's depatterning, the latter involving massive doses of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) combined with similarly large doses of psychedelic drugs (such as L.S.D.). The intent was to break down the subject's personality — theoretically psychic driving could then be used with some efficacy in establishing a new personality. In Cameron's depatterning, the ECT would often continue to be administered despite the manifestation of convulsive fits, which were consensually considered to be contraindications to normal and safe ECT procedure. Such biologically and psychologically devastating procedures, adopted internationally by the psychiatric establishment, were largely abolished by the time the CIA was brought before a Senate Hearing (1977) for its involvement and funding of Cameron's experimental activities — as part of the MKULTRA program.”

Kam Hassah
Le Origini Dell’ Idolatria
Hanson No Cat
Cassette
£6.99
Solo subterranean metal/tapes/electronics ritual from Matteo Castro, the brains behind the Second Sleep label. Aspects of the more spacious early New Blockaders form with a nocturnal/scientific appeal, thin distant drones that are extremely malevolent and non-specific percussive chatter: “40 minutes of dark hums littered with junk clutter, heavy breathing, and harsh crunch. Sounds like someone WAAAAY underground working on something he shouldn't be. First edition covers green print on black paper.” – Aaron Dilloway.

Clang Quartet
Joyful Noise In The Face Of Death
Hanson HN-235
Cassette
£6.99
Consummate weirdo cassette from this Christian Industrial noise project (??!!) put together by Scotty Irving. Two live shows with Irving combines costumes, homemade instruments and electronics into intense ritual workings that combine progressive drumming, juddering bursts of Whitehouse-scale noise and a weird concrete/compositional appeal. “Electronic noise and percussion from one of the most intense performers in the states, Scotty Irving. The dude and I definitely have some different beliefs, but that doesn't stop my mind from being blown every time I see him. He is a true believer in what he does and you can tell by his very intense and passionate performances. He also utilizes some awesome homemade props and elaborate costumes that really take the gigs OVER THE TOP... He's one of a kind. Both sides recorded during live gigs. Side A from the Voice Of The Valley noise rally 2009, Side B from the International Noise Conference, Brooklyn, 2010.” – Aaron Dilloway.

Twig Harper
s/t
Hanson HN-237
CD
£9.99
Edition of 500 copies solo album from Twig Harper of Nautical Almanac in the mode of his classic Intuitive American Esoteric series. This is a massively psychedelic/continually unfolding series of tape works that move from moments of single string acoustic blues guitar through chattering voices, glitches, weird snatches of audio verite, what could almost be Industrial re-thinks of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider”, piano demolition ala Philip Corner… in many ways it makes me think of the place that John Fahey might have ended up if he had pushed through with the more extended experiments in concrete ragas that he was involved with near the end of his life, formulating a particularly personal and future-visioned take on American Primitive that came from the sounds of his surroundings and the landscape itself and the way they operated within his own personal mythology. Few people can make tape work sound so musically expressive and, yeah, intuitively America as Harper and this is a real treat. “First proper CD release from Nautical Almanac’s Twig Harper. Twig was a big part in Hanson Records getting off the ground back in the mid-90's, so I'm very excited to release his debut solo glass mastered CD! Hot off the barefoot of his collaboration release with Daniel Higgs on Thrill Jockey... Twig Harper continues in the alternate universe tradition of his three volume Intuitive American Esoteric LP series, with 43 minutes psychedelic tape manipulations and droning synthesizer… electronic and organic sound mixed to brain warping perfection. Bell's, homemade electronics, synth, piano, strings, junk, horns and voice treated with tape for "full-on" musique concrete/sound poetry/electronic trance inducing confusion. Recommended for fans of Albert Hoffmann, Smegma, Pierre Henry, The Butthole Surfers, Maria Sabina, Dylan Nyoukis, Tobe Hooper, Criswell, Tod Dockstader, Sirhan Sirhan, The 13th Floor Elevators, Aliens, Humans, Jokes, and OBE's. 500 copies packaged in black poly jewelcases.” – Aaron Dilloway.

Skin Graft
Dystrophy
Hanson HN-236
CD
£6.99
First ever ‘real’ CD from Wyatt Howland aka Skin Graft with a set of wretchedly distorted, blown-apart tone threat that pushes ever deeper into explorations of entropic noise, sandpaper drones and the sound of twisted metal w/a black psychedelic aspect and found tapes/intercepted emergency calls incorporated in an odd textural/tonal manner that is profoundly disturbing: “Debut CD release for Cleveland's Skin Graft. Wyatt Howland aka Skin Graft has been blasting his crude noise in the filthiest Cleveland basements and scum punk bars every two or three nights… a week! for the past five or so years. He has a knack for writhing in the filthy underbelly of sound using junk metal, field recordings and primitive electronics. Dystropohy is complete audio horror texture…pulverizing harsh sounds of fluttering static, feedback and crushed metal… This is the sound you hear when you are stuck upside down in the backseat of a hit and skidding car. Just horrible sounds! The complete OPPOSITE to the sounds of his past collaborators Emeralds and Bee Mask. Whereas they have aimed for outer space… Skin Graft has aimed himself head first into a shitty old Cleveland gutter. Always touring, always playing gigs, and always recording…solo and as a member of long running Cleveland noise punks Dead Peasant Insurance as well as Power Violence heavyweights Apartment 213. Recommended for fans of Wolf Eyes, The New Blockaders, Napalm Death, Taint, Murder Corporatrion, Negative Approach, Prurient, and Controlled Bleeding. 500 copies packaged in black poly jewelcases.” – Aaron Dilloway.
