Stan Reed/Gregor Jabs/Frank Rowenta
Apoplexia 1973: A Musical Research
Jeans Records 01
CD
£11.99
Possibly inspired or modelled on Basil Kirchin's improvised/concrete experiments in collage aspects of variously expanded and/or devolved mental states, Apoplexia 1973 combines reel-to-reel tapes from Klinischen Anstalten Aachen from the early 1970s that include interviews and interjections from a group of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia with recreations of hallucinatory mind involving blats of free jazz, warped, drifting synth patterns, martial drums and aleatoric, often supremely disconcerting, tape constructions. Somewhere between Worlds Within Worlds and Nurse With Wound circa Homotopy/Spiral Insana, the players all have various connections to the fringes of experimental European sound, with Stan Reed being a member of Broken Penis Orchestra and a collaborator with both Steven Stapleton and Richard Rupenus. Gregor Jabs is a German sound artist who records under the name Grillhaus. Frank Rowenta is one half of Rowenta/Khan along with Achim Khan, originally one half of Hirsche Nicht Aus Sofa.
