Chaos Midnight Strain Theory Records No Cat 10" £10.99 First turned onto this excellent Seattle-based duo by our pals Sparkle Girl and as usual they were fucking right, Slicing Grandpa are an excellent/weird rhythm machine/fuzz/vox/guitars cabal that take the sound of early Chrome and bombard it with downs, F/X and glue until it comes across more like a cough syrup pro-sci-fi take on Big Black. Aspects of this 10” would’ve sat just right on a Subterranean comp or an LAFMS cassette – the vocals sit under a thin storm of gloop while the guitars have a great lubricated, quicksilver feel that speaks of doom, drugs and dislocation like nothing else. Dark, fucked, totally great. |
