Dolphins Into The Future
Ke Ala Ke Kua

KRAAK K063

LP
£12.99

Brand new full-length retro-futuristic fantasy scored for dolphin calls, ghostly hallelujah choirs, saxophone, tape and synth after a field trip to Big Island in Hawaii that focused on inter-mammalian communication. Dolphins Into The Future is Belgium’s LRJ Martens also known as Duncan Cameron and a regular collaborator with James Ferraro and Spencer Clark. “In three epic new age compositions Martens seeks the ultimate sound for the ‘Cetacean Nation’, of which he is one of the official composers. Traces of esoteric seventies fusion and the 3D universes of Jean-Luc Bozzoli are gently transformed to artistic sound relaxation and aquatic poetry. L.R.J. Martens is one of the key figures in the Belgian DIY avant-garde scene. With labels such as Imvated, Bread and Animals and Taped Sounds he gave new energy to the cassette underground in Belgium. With a background in various noise sensations and neo-dadaistic sound play, he now found his ying and yang in Dolphins Into The Future. A-side) Ke Ala Ke Kua A lucid collage of alt saxophone, tapes, synthesizer, Pacific Ocean waves floating in 7’s, Polynesian choirs and poly-rhythms, site-specific birdsounds and walkman. Three chapters to translate the extreme dramatics, spirit, multi dimensions and beauty of the Kealakekua Bay, the Gods’ pathway. . B-side) Ho’okena’aha Halawai An emotional-emphatic sound memory of an encounter with a school of Spinner Dolphins and two Humph-Back Whales. Created with the Dave Smith Evolver keyboard, and the angel vocals from the Casio CTK810. Ko‘okika Moku’aina Study for alt saxophone, birdsongs, water and cassette. Being an evocative sound postcard from Hawai’i’s Big Island, the Orchid Isle. Recorded and mixed June and July 2010 by L.R.J. Martens at Cetacean Nation Studios, Antwerp." – Kraak.

Dolphins Into The Future
Two Romantic Landscapes

Bennifer Editions No Cat

Cassette
£10.99

Limited cassette from Lieven aka Dolphins Into The Future with a side each inspired by a classical landscape painter, Jacob Philipp Hackert and Caspar David Friedrich. This tape kinda represents a departure for Lieven in that the pieces feel less ‘ambient’ and more fully inhabited, with the Hackert side possessed of a great early Radiophonic/Joe Meek electro atmosphere that’s so obsessively layered that it feels like picking out the movement of figures in an endless landscape or the play of the light in the distance. The Friedrich side is a bit heavier on the gravitas, with omming pools of drone surrounded by modal keyboards and zoned electro atmospherics that could almost be a fully plugged-in Organic Music Society. Lovingly assembled/screened fold-over card sleeves too. Edition of 150 copies.

Innercity
In Fetal Aura

Upstairs 005

CD-R
£8.99

Limited edition of 200 copies, on Daniel Lopatin/Oneohtrix Point Never’s label. Innercity is Hans Dens, a member of the Dreamtime Tapes Sounds community alongside Lieven Martens/Dolphins Into The Future et al. His sound is based around degraded loops and minimal keyboard sighs, generating oceans of sound that are dense with weird, sub-aquatic life-forms. The main thrust of In Fetal Aura is a recreation of pre-birth states and womblike stasis using repetition, sublimation and disarticulated sound and there’s a grainy complexity to his compositions that is close to William Basinski. “Innercity is the brainchild of Belgium's Hans Dens, a wiz from the Dreamtime think tank who has been prodigiously translating his vision journeys to DAT since 2008... anyone familiar with 666 MINUTES AT BOTTOMS OF BLACK LAKES will understand IN FETAL AURA as a natural outgrowth of his process, refined via the destruction and adaptation of loop based bedroom concrete, kraut and new age towards an auditory dreamsystem language all his own. He's also the barron of nu school Bontempi BT series jammage; the Italian stepchildren of the Casio MT series, imbued with aliased, bit damaged refuse from a time when things were simpler. IN FETAL AURA is a trip; a moving picture of animate life in pre-semiotic states of development. Within that trip Innercity reflects biological diversity in spirit form, beautifully shifting from one amorpha to to the next via repetition and mutation, like spirits basking in the coptic glow of life before consciousness. Don't fear the path to amnesia; an infinite patch wipe.. the incomplete return.” – DL
